The success of gravel as a post setting depends on the soil. Termites got it, not rot. That is why you should never use a landscape timber as a fence post even when they are close to the same size as a fence post and cost about 25% of a fence post!

The Fence Is 256 Ft.

The biggest problem is that over time, some of them will bow. The fence has been in for over 10 yrs and only one of the posts have had any trouble. Deep holes, placed 1 ft of gravel in the holes placed the landscape timbers and poured concrete around them, most of them are still in the fence, i have had about 5 of them warp and need replacement, i have had 10 rot at ground level and break but that is over 22 years.
